By Willy Wimmer.
The Corona rehash of the infamous conference in downtown Munich was appropriate to the situation. Everything revolved around Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ischinger, the “security entertainer” of this year’s conference, which produces everything except security.
Neither U.S. President Joe Biden, nor French President Macron, nor even the German Chancellor could change that in the slightest. All speeches were subject to the assumption that there are no answers to the most pressing challenges on the planet. President Joe Biden, according to his status, made the start, in which he made the new target adjustment with Russia and China. If one were truly interested in a stable world, President Macron’s statement should have been taken seriously. From Paris came the clear recognition that peace in Europe is only possible through dialogue with Moscow. With this postulate, President Macron made all the others look downright “old.” The president from the neighboring country was right, and for two reasons.
There was a central consequence of the misery of the Second World War, the foundation of which had been laid at Versailles. It is the United Nations Charter with the Security Council’s monopoly on the use of force. This global insurance policy has been shredded by the USA with the active support of the present US President Joe Biden by the invasion of Yugoslavia. President Joe Biden is currently doing quite sensible things, see the New Start disarmament treaty with Russia and early reports show hope for the problems with Iran. Why doesn’t President Joe Biden return to the United Nations Charter and its monopoly on the use of force without any reservation? And join the statute to the International Criminal Court in The Hague to reaffirm it?
He has also seen the issue central to European security driven to the wall in his political career. After all, the 1990 NATO summer summit, immediately before German reunification, at the American instigation of the then Soviet Union, held out the prospect of changing NATO by abandoning the military component, transforming it into a civilian-diplomatic organization, and incorporating the then Soviet Union into the structures that were in place. At the beginning of every crisis-ridden development in the last century there were lies and deception. To the extent that NATO has abandoned its basis in international law, the world has been plunged into rubble and ashes. So much insight must be, also in Munich. From there, only “false reports” are announced.
